The music and art of Jean-Michel Basquiat” is an exhibition that seeks to make us understand the working atmosphere of the artist and his lifelong involvement in music, in order to give us a complete image of the many ways in which music played a role in his work.
The starting point of the project was the work itself. Beginning by layering paint, words, musical symbols and empty spaces, Basquiat created pictorial musical compositions through art. The artist represented sound visually, through a repertoire of symbols and musical content. This translation has a strong impact on our approach. The exhibition scenography will be treated as a sonic landscape where sound defines the space and volumes, alternating areas of silence with more pronounced zones.
