This project focuses on two key aspects. First of all, throughout the exhibition we hope to translate the city of New York in the 80s, a city under construction, shattered, destroyed, but also the birthplace of a free, flamboyant and effervescent youth. We are therefore illustrating the memory of this city in an almost spectral way, punctuated throughout by the key figures who lived there. Then, to exhibit the works, we focused on Basquiat as a performer. This aspect of his personality and work interests us as little explored, despite many saying that he saw his life and his work as a performance. We aim to exhibit the paintings in literal “show cases” that punctuate the route through the city. Each of these cases features different audiovisual and lighting systems and is broken down.
