Jean-Michel Basquiat’s life only represents a tiny fragment in the history of art. Yet, 30 years after his death, the artist is still as world-renowned as ever. With this exhibition, we wish to show are images, details and an atmosphere with the greatest possible precision, all of which reveal the artist’s life. Beyond exhibiting material works, we want to convey sentiments and sensations to the public that were specific to Basquiat: anxiety, morbidity, solitude. We want to mark this contrast by creating, firstly, a space that exhibits works as they are usually exhibited, in a very classical way. In a second space, we want to break new ground, as Basquiat did. A very gloomy, tight space, in the image of his condition of a black artist in his time.
