Self-destruct

This dissertation explores a desire to produce a critique in design, and the importance of designers questioning their work. By observing and studying the hub that formed in the design world in 1960s’ Italy, we are struck by designers’ strong commitment to society and how they questioned the world and environment we live in. They wanted to grow increasingly independent from the industrial world in order to provide better solutions and benefit humankind above all else. But this work necessarily requires self-critique. By attempting to understand the critique and what it encompasses, this essay offers hypotheses on the “self destruction” of design as a means of evolution.
