We would like to create an exhibition that retells the story of Basquiat through his artistic and visual production, his encounters, his cultures and his musical emotion. Music emanated from his work, with an exploration of the music that shaped the New York of the 70s and 80s where Basquiat lived and worked, as well as more classical references. It is therefore important to show the many different registers that were his sources of inspiration, as well as their role in his work. More than just a “soundtrack” to his life, music emanated from his work and symbolises a tangible link between the artist and his art.
